Park Description

In south Morris County the Black River flows for twelve miles like a lazy crescent from Ironia through Chester and Milltown to the county line.  The place names with variations on "iron" and "mill" suggest the area's significant historical and economic roles.  The region's several parks contain important cultural sites, a glacial gorge, flat woods roads and narrow rocky trails.  Along its course the Black River passes through:

  • Black River Wildlife Management Area
  • Black River County Park
  • Hacklebarney State Park

Each of these can be found in the Trail Conference's parks directory.
