Directions

Take I-287 South to Exit 52 (Riverdale/Wayne/Butler) and bear left at the fork to continue on NJ 23 South. In 0.7 mile, turn right onto County Alt. 511, then immediately turn right again onto West Parkway. In 0.8 mile, turn right onto Mountain Avenue, and continue for 1.0 mile (passing under I-287) to a dead-end at the parking area for Mountainside Park.  GPS address:  275 Mountain Avenue, Pompton Plains, NJ 07444.  GPS Coordinates: 40.971176, -74.325584

 

Park Overview

Mountainside Park has two loop trails -- the Blue Trail and the Red Trail -- each 2.2 miles long. The Blue Trail climbs steeply to the top of Pequannock Knob, which offers outstanding views of northern New Jersey and the New York City skyline.

Mountainside Park has two loop trails -- the Blue Trail and the Red Trail -- each 2.2 miles long. The Blue Trail climbs steeply to the top of Pequannock Knob, which offers outstanding views of northern New Jersey and the New York City skyline. Park Description

Although the sounds of I-287 creep up these steep hills, the views more than make up for it. The  North American Butterfly Association features this park as one of their key locations. Contact Pequannock Township for camping information.
